Whilst watching the film Dirty Dancing new years’ eve, I started thinking about listing my top films. Dirty Dancing definitely is one of them for me, so I thought about the others. If one of them is on TV then it would be something I’d watch even if they were half way through.
- Dirty Dancing
- Love Actually
- The Holiday
- Legally Blonde
- 10 Things I Hate About You
This also made me think about other lists including things my person would enjoy (I may or may not have been inspired seeing Patrick Swayze!), books I want to read in 2026 (bit of a segue I know!), and then other goals for the new year.
My person would dance with me, sing with me, be a bit of a geek, love cats, enjoy cooking, be a reader, be passionate about whatever their special interest is. We’d be a team, supporting each other, working together and having fun together. We’d be in sync with each other, we’d be best friends, he’d enjoy cuddling.
Sounds like a fairytale romance right?
I guess that’s what led me to think about my 2026 reading list and what I would set as my 2026 reading goal!
For 2025 I set my goal as 180 books, which I would never have thought I would have managed a few years ago, but I managed to meet my 2025 reading goal by using reading, well, mainly listening to audiobooks, as an escape from everything else.
For 2026 though, I do not want to set myself such a high goal. I have a yearly Audible plan, so I get 24 credits a year each August (I have been supplementing that with listening to audiobooks from the library on both Libby and BorrowBox, or Apple Books). This year I tried to finish listening to all the books I already had purchased in Audible and Apple Books, which I did a good job of. This means I have not yet used any of the 24 credits I got in August, so I’m heading into 2026 with 24 Audible credits to spend and only one fiction book left in my Audible TBR list (it’s book 4.5 of a series and I haven’t yet read 2, 3 or 4 in the series yet!), I do have a bit of a long wish list on Audible and some of those are also in my Goodreads TBR list for 2026 so far.
With the Goodreads 2026 challenge now open to set my reading goal for the year, I have opted for 30 books. This gives me enough spaces to use my 24 Audible credits and also read 6 books on top from other sources, or if I decide to, I can purchase more credits or pay for any books that I’d like that are cheaper than the cost of a credit for me.
I also have decided to set myself some other challenges for this year:
- Write every day
- Spend 30 minutes on my research every day
Plus, I will continue with some of the things I started to do in 2025:
- Read every day
- Go out for a walk every day
Other friends linked with me on Goodreads have started adding their reading goal for the year, so far 30 books seems to be the target number for several of us already, it will be interesting to see what number others decide upon as they also enter their reading goal for 2026.
What do you have on your favourites list? Are you creating lists of things to do or read for 2026 or setting any goals?
