As part of my writing every day goal, I will document what I have done each day throughout the week, reviewing the week and any challenges every Sunday before moving onto the next week. I will aim to add to this post daily across the week then once I’ve added my Sunday review I will publish it.
Thursday 1st January 2026
So far today, there’s not been too much done so far as I slept in. However, I have managed to get up, eat, and finish a book I was listening to (Winter, Val McDermid). I need to go in the shower and change my Dexcom, but it is so cold in my flat I’ve had to wait for the heating to warm the place up so I will shower in a bit then apply a fresh Dexcom.
Today ended up being very productive, despite the lay in! After I showered (Dexcom free shower – if you know, you know!) and started a fresh Dexcom, I managed to get some recycling sorted, a walk completed, I listened to some more chapters of another book (Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir) and I even managed to spend an hour and a half doing some of my research (this was 3 times more than my goal, so I’m happy with that and also happy that I got some clarity with what needs doing and even within what I did).
Friday I want to get some more research done, get some fresh air, do some cooking, no doubt listen to some more of Project Hail Mary, and start the first week of A Bowl Full of Lemons 2026 Home Organization Challenge as week 1 is sorting the Home Office and that will help me get my research done as I find it hard to focus at the best of times but even more so when my desk/desk area/the room is cluttered (anyone else like this?).
My desk is mostly ok as I did make an effort to tidy some odds and ends a few months ago, but there is still some things that come under the “Home Office” that could do with being organised for sure – think paperwork to file and shred, as well as removing the dust that seems to accumulate from no where!
I do clean my keyboard and mouse fairly regularly but the back of the desk behind the screens and such areas definitely gets forgotten more often than not. It is definitely a good time for a deep clean though, starting the year with a clearer office area will make other things easier and will mean no more staring at a mess or trying to focus on my research with dust bunnies loitering in the background.
I’ll head to bed now, and I will put on the Sleep Yourself Smart audiobook for a little bit as I only have a couple of chapters left and it will help my brain stop thinking about everything else and hopefully allow me to get to sleep easier!
Friday 2nd January 2026
Today I managed to get outside for a short walk – a little shorter than I wanted but the snow that came down over night made it slippery underfoot so I didn’t get very far. But indoors I managed to sort out some more tidying up, this time in my bedroom (I didn’t end up doing the “office” stuff today), I cooked some chicken biryani and while I was sorting that I listened to and finished Project Hail Mary – which I enjoyed listening to. I also managed to spend some time on my research as well which means I’ve had a productive day even though I didn’t really get much sleep overnight.
Plan for Saturday: I will need to decide on the next book to read, I need to do the Home Office organising challenge as its start date is Saturday and if today’s weather is anything to go by then it won’t be easy going out for the next week at least which is a bit annoying, but at least I can work on the office organising Saturday. I also intend to work on my research for 30 minutes, and either Saturday or Sunday will need to sort out some lesson things for work on Monday so it is fully sorted rather than having to do it Monday morning. I know what the content of the lab is I just need to tidy up the learning materials.
Saturday 3rd January 2026
Best laid plans and all that… I wasn’t feeling too well Saturday so I ended up spending most of the day in bed recovering. It also snowed a little and wasn’t very warm out so I’m glad I was able to stay at home.
Sunday 4th January 2026
I managed to get some fresh air Sunday though, a short walk to the supermarket to get some supplies for the week. The pavements weren’t all as icy as they could have been – unlike the paths Friday, they were really slippery – so it wasn’t a problem, just a little chilly! Apart from getting out I didn’t do much else, I did however prepare lunch for work Monday and make sure my food flask was clean and ready to use Monday morning.
Overall
The first four days of the year haven’t gone too bad, sure I haven’t done everything I wanted to, but I am going to cut myself some slack as it’s been a tough week in general and when you’re not feeling well sometimes you just need to sleep it off. I do now have a bit to sort out Monday morning when I get to work instead of being more prepared but it is what it is, one step at a time.
